About the Club
As the National Breed Club recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), the Poodle Club of Canada is responsible for maintaining and protecting the official breed standard in Canada. We work to ensure the standard reflects the integrity, function, and long-term health of the Poodle in all three varieties.
The Past
The club was established on June 16, 1957, at the home of Susie Mae Weir as the Poodle Advancement Association. The goal of this small group of dedicated Poodle breeders from Southern Ontario was to promote the “total Poodle”.
Over time, the association evolved into the Poodle Club of Canada, the National Breed Club representing all three varieties.
The Present
Today, the Poodle Club of Canada brings together members from across the country who share a commitment to the breed. As the National Breed Club, we maintain the Breed Standard, promote responsible breeding practices, and encourage participation in Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) activities.
We value inclusivity, transparency, and fairness in governance. Through education, ethical breeding practices, and sportsmanship, we support the long-term health, soundness, and welfare of the Poodle while encouraging participation in conformation, performance, and companion events.
